Cholera Outbreak in Ghana

Recently it has been all over the news [in Ghana] that is, that there has been an outbreak of cholera and already 4000 people have been diagnosed and 6 have been recorded dead. I saw something that drew my attention today, a well dressed middle aged man walked out of the washroom and didn't wash his hands and entered his office! i was shocked! then i realised that it was not the first time i have seen men walk out of a washroom without so much as looking at the tap rite outside the washroom with soap and a towel to wipe your hands!. seriously? like if well educated people working in the full blast of air conditioners and 24hr access to the internet, what do we expect people in the rural areas who do not have the luxury of all this to do. People in Ghana and Africa as a whole has a huge problem with waste management and cleanliness in general.

A picture of  the filth in Accra

A picture of the filth on a sunday morning at kaneshie market in accra. Don't get the wrong idea people, i am not trying to discredit my country! i love my country but we have serious health issues that we must address. You cannot put all the blame on the people. The government needs to address the issue by employing people with the necessary equipments to take care of the ever growing waste in accra and Ghana. Zoom lion a waste management company is doing its best but seriously it is not enough, we need more! Can you imagine the mosquitoes this filth with breed if it rains? i cannot imagine. with the plastic waste[polythene bags, sachet water bags and plastic bottles] being the major contributors to the filth there's much to be done. Yesterday the 22nd of February 2011 was world water day. Meeeennnn don't even get me started on the water problems we have here in the country especially in Accra. If you want clean water masa, you need to get polytanks and buy water from a tanker like we do at home. Generally Ghana is a peaceful and beautiful place to be. but there's more room for improvement!
