DOES IT EVEN HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE?

So i don't even remember the last time i read a novel. I used to read a lot when i was in Senior High School but i quit reading romantic novels to concentrate on my books for SSSCE.<trust me, it was hard> Afterwards i found it pretty difficult to pick up a novel and actually finish reading. Recently i have started reading 'romantic novels' again and i suddenly realised, omg these books are soo tacky. Its like it follows a trend, does the pattern even change? a rich young and handsome man who is arrogant falls for a poor pretty girl or a rich arrogant girl... hmm does the story line ever change?<sigh> either their love is forbidden or a contractual marriage is arranged and they eventually fall in love.

Formerly i would used 2 or 3days to finish a big bulky novel and when i put it down i realise that am missing something and that am supposed to meet someone somewhere or something! only to realise its actually the life of the book am living. someone is supposed to meet someone somewhere in the book! crazy huh? a girlfriend of mine who is also addicted to romantic novels back then had similar experiences and sometimes in class we would be talking about these novels like movies and people would ask us, what are u guys talking about? while others look on and think,"these girls are crazy".<eyes rolling> lolz

Currently am reading this book called the Virgin Brides by Lynne Graham. I am not even halfway through and i have already used close to 5 days.(moan). I wonder when am even going to finish.<wink wink> but i will... eventually. Gotta go finish my novel, would be back in a while. xoxo Lulu

FRIENDS?

So in the past few weeks,i have really learnt a lot about friends, what they really mean in our daily lives. When u are pretty close to someone and that person disappoints you, its really leaves u hurt and makes u wonder if this friend actually cares. A friend is supposed to be there for you when you need him or her the most, you know what they say... a friend in need is a friend indeed. There is this friend of mine that i consider a really close he's like one of my best friends. Even if it is 11.00pm and he needs ma help i would get up from my sleep and go help out cuz i know what friends mean to me. However when i needed him the most to take delivery of something for me that the deadline was pretty close, even in a week he had not taken delivery of any of the items even though i called him almost everyday to remind him. Now would you call that a close friend? i was really hurt and haven't spoken to him since, and he has not called to apologise either. I updated my facebook status saying... that the biggest lesson i have learnt in the past week is the power of silence... even a fool who holds his tongue is considered wise... under normal circumstances, i would have called these 'friends' of mine and asked them why? but i decided to keep silent. If for one reason or the other you could not fulfill a promise, or keep an appointment and you cannot call to explain or apologise, then why should i call and ask for one. Who the cap fits let them wear it! God made friends for a reason, because he knows that we need people to lean on, to share things with, to laugh with and spend time with. My advice to you, don't take your friends for granted, because the friends you meet on your way up, they are the same friends you'll meet on your way down. You never know where you'll need their help in the future.

When you tell a friend something in confidence and he  he/she snitches on you, is this person truly your friend? what if in his defense he says that he was actually looking out for you because he wants you to seek help? the subject of friends and friendship in general can be really dicey. but what i say is just keep good friends and throw the bad ones out. Good riddance to bad rubbish lol

Cholera Outbreak in Ghana

Recently it has been all over the news [in Ghana] that is, that there has been an outbreak of cholera and already 4000 people have been diagnosed and 6 have been recorded dead. I saw something that drew my attention today, a well dressed middle aged man walked out of the washroom and didn't wash his hands and entered his office! i was shocked! then i realised that it was not the first time i have seen men walk out of a washroom without so much as looking at the tap rite outside the washroom with soap and a towel to wipe your hands!. seriously? like if well educated people working in the full blast of air conditioners and 24hr access to the internet, what do we expect people in the rural areas who do not have the luxury of all this to do. People in Ghana and Africa as a whole has a huge problem with waste management and cleanliness in general.

A picture of  the filth in Accra

A picture of the filth on a sunday morning at kaneshie market in accra. Don't get the wrong idea people, i am not trying to discredit my country! i love my country but we have serious health issues that we must address. You cannot put all the blame on the people. The government needs to address the issue by employing people with the necessary equipments to take care of the ever growing waste in accra and Ghana. Zoom lion a waste management company is doing its best but seriously it is not enough, we need more! Can you imagine the mosquitoes this filth with breed if it rains? i cannot imagine. with the plastic waste[polythene bags, sachet water bags and plastic bottles] being the major contributors to the filth there's much to be done. Yesterday the 22nd of February 2011 was world water day. Meeeennnn don't even get me started on the water problems we have here in the country especially in Accra. If you want clean water masa, you need to get polytanks and buy water from a tanker like we do at home. Generally Ghana is a peaceful and beautiful place to be. but there's more room for improvement!

THE STEEP CLIMB

The climb to Mountain Afadjato in the Eastern Region of Ghana was one 'Hell' of an experience literally speaking. My course mates and i decided to climb the tallest Mountain in Ghana and my oh my, it is true what they say that many are called but few are chosen. About 70% of my course mates quit halfway through the climb. but i am proud to say that i made it to the top HURRAY. Below is a picture of me looking down at the settlements below the foot of the mountain. The view is simply breathtaking. The climb took about two hours and equiped with ma bottle water as well as sachet water and my hand fan(under my armpit), i was able to slowly but steadily make the climb.

Taking a few stops on the way to fan myself and take a few sips of my well managed water. i kept passing by people breathing heavily and sweating profusely and too tired to make it, but they were determined to make it to the top of the mountain. It was like a competition and it felt like if you get the mountain you would be given a gold medal or something.lol i wish but i guess we all wanted to feel like we had accomplished something great. And that is exactly how i felt when i got to the top of the mountain. The reward was the breathtaking view and the clean fresh air. It was just beautiful.

Breathtaking view from the top of Mt. Afadjato in the Volta Region of Ghana.

After a tedious descent to the foot of the mountain which left my legs wobbly. We(me and my friends) had to hike through the mountains for an additional hour to see the Tagbo Falls. I complained most of the way there and i was soo hungry i nearly returned to the bus, but my friends encouraged me and it really paid off. i was speechless when i saw the waterfall and my some of my friends were already there(those who couldnt make the climb). They started sreaming and shouting and splashing water everywhere which includes moi.lol it was so much fun and am glad i went for the  trip!

OUR CULTURE OUR HERITAGE

a picture of my sister and the masquerades at the festival

I always enjoy going for my hometown festival Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast. it is one the most festive seasons for the people of Cape Coast. It is celebrated in the 2nd week of every month of September. i love going for this festival because all my relative will be there. those i like and those, not so much.lol the colourful kente worn be the chiefs and queenmothers as well as the melodious tunes of the african drums is just amazing. i have a feeling of nostalgia anytime i remember the times i went to the festival with family. i never miss the procession of the chiefs in their palanquins and the asafo people. my grandmother belongs to the benkum asafo company whose colour is red.

unfortunately ma grandma is too old to attend the festival, she stays at home in her regalia and sits outside to watch people going to take part in the procession. i particularly remember when i was a kid and could not see above everyone's head and my dad had to carry me on his shoulders. haaaaa[sigh] those were the good old days.

ARE YOU STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM?

How many of u are still in love with your exes? so why don't u go back to them? why don't u guys patch up especially if he also still loves you. You ask some people what keeps a relationship together, and they go like if you love eachother then there's nothing to worry about! seriously? i say love is not enough, because if it were, people wouldn't break up. How many times have u compared ur current boyfriend in your head if not aloud wiv ur ex?. How many times do you think that sex with your ex is simply amazing! great! and would want to relive those moments if not to experience them once again.

How many times did you fight with your boyfriend/girlfriend and you called your ex to seek comfort and solace, and someone to talk to. When you are in a relationship with ur ex, u think he/she doesn't give u much attention, doesn't call u enough dadadad.... but suddenly he is your ex and he's the sweetest person ever. Ok, people listen to this scenario carefully, you have broken up wiv ur boyfriend who now becomes your ex, and you guys fall in love with other people and start going out. Then you  fight with your current boyfriend, you call your ex who decides to come take you out, maybe to the pool on a weekend, then guess what happens? you guys start making out and all that. You don't sleep together though. How do you call this? cheating? i honestly don't know what to call it, cuz at the moment you were not thinking straight.

You were hurt and disappointed, and if your boyfriend were to be giving you all the necessary attention, what business would you have calling your ex? Loop holes you create in ur relationships cause ur partners to do things they wouldn't do ordinarily. It doesn't mean they don't love u, they do, but when people are hurt, and they want to feel ok, they do stuff, most of which they are not proud of but makes them feel better anyway.

Do you tell your boyfriend this when things  finally work out and you guys become cool again? i say no! people would beg to differ but that's my personal opinion. Remember though that exes are called exes for a reason, expired is what i say heehehehe, but that is not to say you shouldn't be friends with them or be nice to them. If you guys are really meant to be, if it is 5,7 or 10 years, no matter where it is in the world, you guys will find eachother again and this time, never let go.
